Lake Urmia
Lake Urmia is a large saltwater lake located in northwestern Iran. It is one of the largest lakes in the Middle East and was once known for its rich biodiversity, including various species of fish and birds. The lake has a unique ecosystem and is surrounded by several national parks and protected areas.
In recent years, Lake Urmia has faced significant environmental challenges, primarily due to water diversion for agriculture and climate change. This has led to a dramatic decrease in its water levels, threatening the local wildlife and the livelihoods of communities that depend on the lake's resources.
