Lake Cocibolca
Lake Cocibolca, also known as Lake Nicaragua, is the largest freshwater lake in Central America. It covers an area of approximately 8,264 square kilometers and is located primarily in Nicaragua. The lake is home to various species of fish, including the unique Nicaraguan shark, which is a freshwater species.
The lake is surrounded by several cities, including Granada and San Carlos, and is known for its beautiful islands, such as Ometepe, formed by two volcanoes. Lake Cocibolca plays a crucial role in the local economy, supporting fishing, tourism, and transportation.
