Lake Azuei
Lake Azuei, also known as Lake Enriquillo, is the largest lake in the Caribbean region and is located in the southwestern part of Haiti. It is a saline lake, meaning it has a higher salt concentration than freshwater lakes. The lake is situated at an elevation of about 40 meters below sea level, making it one of the lowest points in the Hispaniola island.
The lake is surrounded by diverse ecosystems, including wetlands and mangroves, which support various wildlife species. It is also home to the American crocodile and several bird species, making it an important area for biodiversity. The lake's water levels have fluctuated significantly over the years, impacting local communities and agriculture.
