Lacrimal Glands
The lacrimal glands are small, almond-shaped glands located above each eye. Their primary function is to produce tears, which help keep the surface of the eye moist and comfortable. Tears also play a crucial role in protecting the eye from dust, debris, and infections.
When the lacrimal glands are stimulated, they release tears that flow across the eye's surface and drain through small openings in the eyelids. This process helps maintain clear vision and supports overall eye health. Dysfunction of these glands can lead to dry eyes or excessive tearing, affecting visual comfort.
