Lackawanna Railroad
The Lackawanna Railroad was a major American railroad that operated primarily in the northeastern United States. Founded in 1851, it connected cities like Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and Newark, facilitating the transport of coal, freight, and passengers. The railroad played a significant role in the industrial growth of the region.
In 1960, the Lackawanna Railroad merged with the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad to form the Lackawanna Railroad Company. Although it faced financial difficulties and eventually ceased operations in the 1980s, its legacy continues through the preservation of some of its historic stations and routes, which are now part of modern transit systems.
