La Befana
La Befana is a character from Italian folklore, celebrated on the night of January 5th, known as the eve of the Epiphany. She is often depicted as an old woman who rides a broomstick and delivers gifts to children, similar to Santa Claus. According to legend, she was a kind witch who missed the opportunity to meet the Three Wise Men and now travels to find the baby Jesus.
Traditionally, children leave out stockings or shoes for La Befana, hoping to receive sweets or small presents. If they have been naughty, they might find coal instead. The celebration of La Befana is an important part of Italian culture, marking the end of the Christmas season.
