Kurban Bayramı, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is an important Islamic holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide. It commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son İsmail (Ishmael) in obedience to God's command. The holiday occurs on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and lasts for four days.
During Kurban Bayramı, families perform the ritual of sacrificing an animal, usually a sheep, goat, or cow. The meat is then divided into three parts: one-third is given to the needy, one-third is shared with relatives, and the remaining third is kept for the family. This practice emphasizes charity, community, and gratitude.
