Kowloon Walled City
Kowloon Walled City was a unique and densely populated settlement in Hong Kong, known for its high-rise buildings and lack of formal government control. Originally a military outpost, it evolved into a thriving community with over 30,000 residents living in a small area of about 6.4 acres by the 1960s. The settlement was characterized by its narrow alleys, makeshift structures, and a vibrant mix of businesses.
Despite its chaotic appearance, Kowloon Walled City had its own social order and provided various services, including schools and clinics. In 1993, the city was demolished, and a park was built in its place, preserving some historical elements and reflecting its complex history.
