Korean New Year
Korean New Year, known as Seollal, is a major traditional holiday in South Korea. It usually falls on the same day as the Lunar New Year and marks the beginning of the lunar calendar. Families gather to honor their ancestors through a ritual called charye, where they prepare a special meal and pay respects to their forebears.
During Seollal, people often wear traditional clothing called hanbok and participate in various customs. One popular activity is playing traditional games, such as yutnori, and enjoying special foods like tteokguk, a rice cake soup that symbolizes the gaining of a year in age.
