Korean Nationality Law
The Korean Nationality Law governs the acquisition, loss, and restoration of nationality in South Korea. It primarily follows the principle of jus sanguinis, meaning nationality is primarily based on blood relations. A child born to at least one South Korean parent automatically acquires South Korean nationality, regardless of the place of birth.
Additionally, the law outlines conditions under which individuals can lose their nationality, such as voluntary renunciation or acquiring another nationality. It also provides pathways for naturalization, allowing foreign nationals to become South Korean citizens under specific criteria, including residency and language proficiency.
