Korean Dialects
Korean dialects, known as satoori, are regional variations of the Korean language spoken across the Korean Peninsula. There are several major dialects, including Gyeonggi, Jeolla, Gyeongsang, and Chungcheong, each with unique pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. The Seoul dialect, a variant of Gyeonggi, is considered the standard form of Korean used in media and education.
The differences among these dialects can be significant, making communication challenging for speakers from different regions. For example, the Gyeongsang dialect is known for its distinct intonation and vocabulary, while the Jeolla dialect features unique expressions and sounds. Understanding these dialects enriches the appreciation of Korean culture and identity.
