Komnenian dynasty
The Komnenian dynasty was a ruling family of the Byzantine Empire that reigned from 1081 to 1185. Founded by Alexios I Komnenos, the dynasty is known for its efforts to restore the empire's power and stability during a time of crisis, including military campaigns against the Seljuk Turks and the Normans.
Under the leadership of Alexios I and his successors, such as John II Komnenos and Manuel I Komnenos, the dynasty expanded the empire's territory and improved its economy. The period is marked by significant cultural and military achievements, as well as the establishment of strong ties with Western Europe, particularly during the First Crusade.
