Knysna loerie
The Knysna loerie, also known as the Knysna turaco or by its scientific name *Tauraco corythaix*, is a vibrant bird native to the forests of southern Africa. It is easily recognized by its striking green and red plumage, along with a distinctive long tail. This bird primarily feeds on fruits, leaves, and flowers, playing a vital role in its ecosystem by aiding in seed dispersal.
Found mainly in the Knysna region of the Garden Route National Park, the Knysna loerie prefers dense, moist woodlands. It is known for its loud, distinctive calls, which can often be heard echoing through the trees. Conservation efforts are important for this species, as habitat loss poses a threat to its population.
