Knights of the Sword
The "Knights of the Sword" was a military order founded in the early 13th century in the region of Livonia, which is now part of Latvia and Estonia. Established to promote Christianity, the order aimed to convert the local pagan populations through military campaigns and alliances. They were known for their distinctive armor and mounted combat skills.
The order played a significant role in the Northern Crusades, fighting alongside other groups like the Teutonic Knights. In 1237, the Knights of the Sword merged with the Teutonic Knights, further expanding their influence in the Baltic region and contributing to the spread of Christianity in Eastern Europe.
