Metacom
Metacom, also known as King Philip, was a leader of the Wampanoag tribe in the 17th century. He is best known for his role in King Philip's War, a conflict between Native American tribes and English settlers in New England from 1675 to 1676. This war was one of the deadliest in American history, resulting in significant loss of life and land for both sides.
Metacom sought to unite various tribes against the encroachment of English settlers on their lands. His efforts were driven by the desire to protect his people's way of life and sovereignty. Ultimately, the war ended in defeat for Metacom and his allies, leading to his death in 1676.
