King Louis-Philippe I
King Louis-Philippe I was the King of the French from 1830 to 1848. He came to power after the July Revolution, which overthrew the Bourbon monarchy. Known as the "Citizen King," he was a member of the House of Orléans and aimed to represent the interests of the bourgeoisie, or middle class, in France. His reign is often associated with a period of relative stability and economic growth.
However, his rule faced increasing opposition due to social inequality and political repression. By 1848, widespread discontent led to the February Revolution, forcing Louis-Philippe to abdicate. He then went into exile, marking the end of the July Monarchy and the beginning of the Second Republic in France.
