King Kamehameha II
King Kamehameha II, born as Liholiho in 1797, was the second ruler of the unified Hawaiian Kingdom. He ascended to the throne in 1819 after the death of his father, King Kamehameha I, who is known for uniting the Hawaiian Islands. Kamehameha II is notable for his efforts to modernize the kingdom and promote Christianity, which was introduced by missionaries during his reign.
During his rule, Kamehameha II abolished the traditional Hawaiian kapu system, which restricted certain behaviors and practices. His reign was marked by significant cultural changes, but it was also short-lived; he died in 1824 while visiting England. His legacy continues to influence Hawaiian culture and history.
