King Country
King Country is a region located in the central part of the North Island of New Zealand. It is known for its stunning landscapes, including rolling hills, lush forests, and rivers. The area is rich in Maori history and culture, with several important sites and stories connected to the Ngāti Maniapoto iwi (tribe).
The region was named after King Tawhiao, the second Māori King, who sought to establish a sovereign Māori state in the late 19th century. Today, King Country is popular for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and exploring the natural beauty of places like the Tongariro National Park.
