Khilafat
The term "Khilafat" refers to the Islamic system of governance led by a Khalifa, who is considered the political and spiritual successor to the Prophet Muhammad. The Khalifa is responsible for upholding Islamic law and ensuring the welfare of the Muslim community, or Ummah. The concept emphasizes unity among Muslims and the importance of leadership in maintaining Islamic principles.
Historically, the Khilafat was established after the death of Muhammad in 632 CE, with the first four leaders known as the Rightly Guided Caliphs. The Khilafat system continued in various forms until the early 20th century, when the Ottoman Empire was dissolved, leading to the end of the last significant Khilafat in 1924.
