Kernkraftwerken
Kernkraftwerken, or nuclear power plants, generate electricity through a process called nuclear fission. In this process, the nucleus of an atom, typically Uranium, is split into smaller parts, releasing a significant amount of energy. This energy heats water to produce steam, which drives turbines connected to generators.
These plants are known for producing large amounts of electricity with low greenhouse gas emissions. However, they also produce radioactive waste, which requires careful management and long-term storage solutions. Safety measures are crucial to prevent accidents, as seen in historical events like Tschernobyl and Fukushima.
