Tschernobyl
Tschernobyl refers to the site of a catastrophic nuclear disaster that occurred on April 26, 1986, at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. A reactor explosion released large amounts of radioactive particles into the atmosphere, affecting not only the surrounding area but also parts of Europe. The incident is considered one of the worst nuclear accidents in history.
In response to the disaster, a large exclusion zone was established around the plant, and thousands of people were evacuated from nearby towns, including Pripyat. The long-term effects of the radiation exposure have been the subject of extensive research, impacting both human health and the environment.
