Kazakhstani Politics
Kazakhstan is a republic with a presidential form of government. The President, currently Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, holds significant power, including the ability to appoint key officials and influence legislation. The political landscape has been shaped by the Kazakhstan People's Assembly and various political parties, although the Nur Otan party has historically dominated.
The country has experienced political reforms, especially after the resignation of Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first President, in 2019. Protests and calls for greater democracy have emerged, reflecting public demand for more political freedoms and transparency. The government continues to navigate these challenges while maintaining stability.
