Kawasaki Disease
Kawasaki Disease is a rare childhood illness that primarily affects children under the age of five. It causes inflammation in the blood vessels, particularly the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart. Symptoms often include a high fever lasting more than five days, rash, swollen lymph nodes, and redness in the eyes, lips, and tongue.
The exact cause of Kawasaki Disease is unknown, but it is believed to involve an abnormal immune response, possibly triggered by an infection. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent serious complications, such as heart damage. Treatment typically involves intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and aspirin.
