Katharevousa
Katharevousa is a form of the Greek language that was developed in the 19th century. It aimed to create a modern version of ancient Greek, blending classical elements with contemporary usage. This language was used in official documents, literature, and education, promoting a sense of national identity.
Despite its initial popularity, Katharevousa faced criticism for being overly complex and disconnected from the spoken language. In the 20th century, it gradually lost prominence as Demotic Greek, a simpler and more accessible form of the language, became the standard for everyday communication and official use.
