Karun River
The Karun River is the longest river in Iran, stretching approximately 720 kilometers. It originates from the Zardkuh mountain range in the Zagros Mountains and flows southwest through the province of Khuzestan before emptying into the Shatt al-Arab waterway. The river is vital for irrigation and supports agriculture in the region.
The Karun River is also significant for its hydropower potential, with several dams constructed along its course, including the Karun-3 Dam. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in the local ecosystem, providing habitat for various species of fish and wildlife.
