Karen Carpenter
Karen Carpenter was an American singer and drummer, best known as one half of the popular duo The Carpenters. Born on March 2, 1950, in New Haven, Connecticut, she gained fame in the 1970s for her distinctive contralto voice and harmonious melodies. The duo, consisting of Karen and her brother Richard Carpenter, produced numerous hit songs, including "Close to You" and "(They Long to Be) Close to You."
Despite her success, Karen struggled with anorexia nervosa, a serious eating disorder that affected her health and career. Tragically, she passed away on February 4, 1983, at the age of 32. Her legacy continues to influence musicians and is remembered for her contributions to pop music.
