Karachi Nuclear Power Plant
The Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (Kanupp) is located in Karachi, Pakistan, and is the country's first commercial nuclear power facility. It was commissioned in 1972 and has undergone several upgrades to enhance its capacity and safety features. The plant primarily uses uranium as fuel to generate electricity, contributing significantly to the national grid.
Kanupp operates under the supervision of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and is designed to produce around 1,000 megawatts of electricity. The facility plays a crucial role in meeting the growing energy demands of Pakistan while promoting the use of nuclear energy as a sustainable power source.
