Kalam Patua
Kalam Patua is a traditional form of folk art originating from the state of West Bengal, India. It is characterized by its vibrant paintings that often depict stories from mythology, folklore, and daily life. The artists, known as Patuas, use natural colors made from local materials to create their artwork on cloth, paper, or walls.
The art form is closely associated with the Patua community, who have historically been itinerant performers. They would travel from village to village, narrating tales through their paintings while singing songs. Today, Kalam Patua is recognized for its cultural significance and is promoted as a means of preserving traditional art forms.
