K-type main-sequence star
A K-type main-sequence star, often referred to as a K dwarf, is a type of star that falls between the cooler M-type stars and the hotter G-type stars, like our Sun. These stars have surface temperatures ranging from about 3,900 to 5,200 Kelvin and are characterized by their orange hue. K-type stars are known for their long lifespans, often lasting tens of billions of years, making them stable environments for potential planetary systems.
K-type stars are typically smaller and less luminous than G-type stars, with about 0.6 to 0.8 times the mass of the Sun. They are common in the universe and can host planets in their habitable zones, where conditions may allow for liquid water. This makes them of particular interest in the search for extraterrestrial life.
