K-141 Kursk
The K-141 Kursk was a Russian nuclear-powered submarine that sank in the Barents Sea on August 12, 2000. It was part of the Russian Navy and was designed for anti-submarine warfare. The submarine was equipped with advanced technology and had a crew of 118 sailors on board at the time of the accident.
The sinking of the Kursk was attributed to a torpedo explosion, which caused the vessel to sink to a depth of about 1,500 feet. A major rescue operation followed, but all crew members tragically lost their lives. The incident raised concerns about submarine safety and the effectiveness of emergency response protocols.
