Kösem Sultan
Kösem Sultan was a powerful figure in the Ottoman Empire, serving as the Valide Sultan, or queen mother, during the 17th century. Born in 1580, she was originally a Greek girl named Anastasia and was captured and brought to the Ottoman court as a slave. She became the wife of Sultan Ahmed I and later the mother of Sultan Murad IV and Sultan Ibrahim.
Kösem Sultan played a significant role in the political landscape of the empire, especially during the reigns of her sons. She was known for her intelligence and political acumen, often acting as a regent and influencing decisions in the court. Her legacy remains notable in Ottoman history.
