Jyotirao Phule
Jyotirao Phule was a prominent Indian social reformer, thinker, and writer born on April 11, 1827, in Pune, Maharashtra. He is best known for his efforts to promote education for women and the lower castes in India during the 19th century. Phule founded the first girls' school in Pune in 1848 and worked tirelessly to challenge the caste system and advocate for social equality.
Phule's contributions extended beyond education; he also co-founded the Satyashodhak Samaj in 1873, an organization aimed at fighting social injustices. His writings, including Gulamgiri (Slavery), highlighted the plight of marginalized communities and called for their rights. Phule's legacy continues to inspire social reform movements in India today.
