Junta
A "junta" is a political group that takes control of a country, often after a coup d'état. This group typically consists of military leaders or other officials who seize power, usually by force, and may suspend the constitution and dissolve existing government institutions.
Juntas are often associated with authoritarian rule, where civil liberties are restricted, and political opposition is suppressed. Historical examples include the Chilean junta that ruled under Augusto Pinochet and the Argentine junta during the Dirty War. These regimes often justify their actions as necessary for national security or stability.
