Junior Varsity
Junior Varsity, often abbreviated as JV, refers to a level of competition in school sports that is typically one step below the Varsity team. It is designed for younger or less experienced athletes who are still developing their skills. Junior Varsity teams provide players with the opportunity to gain experience and improve their abilities while competing against other schools.
In many high schools, Junior Varsity teams exist for various sports, including basketball, football, and soccer. These teams usually consist of students in grades 9 through 11, allowing them to prepare for potential advancement to the Varsity level. Junior Varsity competitions help foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth among young athletes.
