June Bug
The June Bug, also known as the June beetle, is a common name for several species of beetles in the family Scarabaeidae. These insects are typically brown or green and are most active during the late spring and early summer months, particularly in June. They are known for their distinctive, rounded bodies and can often be seen flying around lights at night.
June Bugs are primarily herbivorous, feeding on the leaves of various plants. Their larvae, known as grubs, live in the soil and feed on roots, which can sometimes cause damage to gardens and lawns. Despite this, they play a role in the ecosystem by contributing to soil aeration and nutrient cycling.
