Judas tree
The Judas tree, scientifically known as *Cercis siliquastrum*, is a small deciduous tree native to parts of Europe and Asia. It is renowned for its striking pink or purple flowers that bloom in early spring, often before the leaves appear. The tree typically grows to about 20-30 feet tall and has heart-shaped leaves that turn yellow in the fall.
The name "Judas tree" is believed to be derived from the biblical figure Judas Iscariot, who is said to have hanged himself from one of these trees. The tree's unique flowers grow directly on its branches and trunk, a phenomenon known as cauliflory, making it a popular ornamental choice in gardens and parks.
