Judah Touro
Judah Touro was a prominent American businessman and philanthropist born on June 16, 1775, in Newport, Rhode Island. He was known for his successful ventures in real estate and trade, particularly in the growing cities of New Orleans and Boston. Touro was also a key figure in the Jewish community, contributing to various religious and educational institutions.
In addition to his business achievements, Touro is remembered for his charitable work. He donated significant funds to support hospitals, schools, and synagogues, including the Touro Synagogue in Newport, which is the oldest surviving synagogue in the United States.
