Johnstown Inclined Plane
The Johnstown Inclined Plane is a funicular railway located in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Built in 1891, it was designed to transport people and goods up and down a steep hillside. The incline is about 896 feet long and rises approximately 400 feet, making it one of the steepest vehicular inclined planes in the world.
This unique transportation system uses a cable-driven mechanism to move cars along the slope. The Inclined Plane has become a popular tourist attraction, offering scenic views of the surrounding area. It also serves as a reminder of the city's history and resilience following the devastating Johnstown Flood of 1889.
