John Young (Astronaut)
John Young was an American astronaut and naval officer, born on September 24, 1930. He was a key figure in the early years of the NASA space program, participating in the Gemini and Apollo missions. Young was the first person to fly into space six times and played a significant role in the success of the Apollo 16 mission, where he became the ninth person to walk on the Moon.
Throughout his career, Young was known for his technical expertise and leadership skills. He also served as the commander of the Space Shuttle Columbia on its maiden flight in 1981. Young retired from NASA in 2004, leaving behind a legacy of exploration and innovation.
