Charles Duke is a retired United States Air Force officer and a former NASA astronaut. He was born on October 3, 1935, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Duke flew as the lunar module pilot for the Apollo 16 mission in April 1972, which was the fifth crewed mission to land on the Moon. During this mission, he became the tenth person to walk on the lunar surface.
Duke graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1957 and later earned a master's degree in aeronautical engineering. After his time with NASA, he worked in the private sector and became a successful businessman. He is also known for his involvement in various educational and motivational speaking engagements.
