John I, Count of Namur
John I, Count of Namur was a nobleman who ruled the County of Namur in present-day Belgium during the late 13th century. He was born around 1250 and became count in 1263 after the death of his father, Henry III, Count of Namur. John I's reign was marked by efforts to strengthen his territory and maintain its independence amid the political complexities of the time.
Throughout his rule, John I engaged in various alliances and conflicts with neighboring regions, including Brabant and Hainaut. He was known for his diplomatic skills and played a significant role in the regional politics of the Low Countries until his death in 1291.
