John A. Logan
John A. Logan was a prominent American politician and military leader during the 19th century. Born on February 9, 1826, in Illinois, he served as a Union general in the American Civil War and was known for his leadership in several key battles. After the war, Logan transitioned to politics, representing Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives and later the U.S. Senate.
In addition to his military and political career, Logan played a significant role in establishing Memorial Day as a national holiday to honor fallen soldiers. He was also a strong advocate for veterans' rights and worked to improve their benefits and services. Logan passed away on December 26, 1886.
