Joe Rosenthal
Joe Rosenthal was an American photographer best known for his iconic image of the Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima, taken during World War II. This photograph, captured on February 23, 1945, depicts U.S. Marines raising the American flag on Mount Suribachi and has become a symbol of patriotism and sacrifice.
Born on October 9, 1911, in Washington, D.C., Rosenthal worked for the Associated Press and received the Pulitzer Prize for Photography in 1945 for his work on the Iwo Jima image. He continued his career in photography and later became a respected photojournalist and author.
