Joana of Portugal
Joana of Portugal, also known as Joana the Mad, was born in 1452 and was a member of the Portuguese royal family. She was the daughter of King Afonso V of Portugal and Queen Isabella of Portugal. Joana is best known for her troubled life, which was marked by her mental health struggles and her tumultuous marriage to Philip the Handsome of the House of Habsburg.
After her husband's death in 1506, Joana's mental health deteriorated further, leading to her being confined in a castle for much of her life. Despite her challenges, she was the mother of several children, including Charles V, who became Holy Roman Emperor. Joana passed away in 1555.
