Jinju Namgang Battle
The Jinju Namgang Battle was a significant conflict during the Imjin War (1592-1598), which involved the invasion of Korea by Japan. This battle took place in December 1592 near the Namgang River in Jinju, where Korean forces, led by General Kim Si-min, defended the city against a much larger Japanese army. Despite being outnumbered, the Koreans utilized strategic defenses and local knowledge to hold off the attackers.
The battle is notable for the fierce resistance shown by the Korean troops and the civilian population. The defense of Jinju became a symbol of Korean resilience and patriotism. Although the Japanese eventually captured the city, the battle inspired further resistance against the invasion, contributing to the eventual withdrawal of Japanese forces from Korea.
