Jennie Butchart
Jennie Butchart was a Canadian horticulturist known for creating the famous Butchart Gardens in Brentwood Bay, British Columbia. Born in 1856, she transformed a former limestone quarry into a stunning garden that attracts visitors from around the world. Her passion for gardening and landscape design led to the development of various themed gardens, showcasing a wide variety of plants.
After her husband, Robert Butchart, began a cement business, Jennie dedicated her time to cultivating the gardens. She opened them to the public in 1904, and they have since become a National Historic Site of Canada. Today, the gardens are celebrated for their beauty and diversity.
