Japonic languages
The Japonic languages are a language family primarily spoken in Japan and include the Japanese language and the Ryukyuan languages. Japanese is the most widely spoken, while the Ryukyuan languages are found in the Ryukyu Islands and consist of several distinct dialects, such as Okinawan and Amami.
These languages share common features, such as similar grammar and vocabulary, but they also exhibit significant regional variations. The relationship between Japonic languages and other language families remains a topic of research, with some theories suggesting connections to Altaic or Austronesian languages, though no consensus has been reached.
