Japanese War Crimes
During World War II, the Imperial Japanese Army committed numerous war crimes across Asia, particularly in countries like China, Korea, and the Philippines. These acts included the brutal treatment of prisoners of war, forced labor, and widespread atrocities against civilians, such as the infamous Nanjing Massacre, where hundreds of thousands were killed and many women were sexually assaulted.
The Japanese military also operated comfort stations, where women were forced into sexual slavery. After the war, some military leaders were tried and convicted for these crimes during the Tokyo Trials, but many others were never held accountable, leading to ongoing debates about historical memory and justice.
