Japanese New Year
Japanese New Year, known as Shōgatsu, is celebrated from January 1 to January 3. It marks the beginning of the new year and is a time for family gatherings, special meals, and various traditions. Many people visit shrines and temples to pray for good fortune in the coming year.
Traditional foods enjoyed during Shōgatsu include osechi, a colorful assortment of dishes, and mochi, a rice cake. Families often send Nengajo, or New Year’s cards, to friends and relatives. The celebration emphasizes renewal, gratitude, and hope for prosperity in the year ahead.
