Janet Jagan
Janet Jagan was a prominent politician and the first female President of Guyana. Born on October 20, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois, she moved to Guyana in 1943. Jagan became involved in politics through her husband, Cheddi Jagan, and was a key figure in the People's Progressive Party (PPP), advocating for social justice and economic reform.
In 1997, Janet Jagan was elected President after serving as Prime Minister. Her leadership focused on improving education and healthcare in Guyana. She remained active in politics until her retirement and passed away on March 28, 2009, leaving a significant legacy in her country.
